RTC Students to help build the new Te Hononga Centre in Kawakawa
RTC is privileged and honoured to be part of building the new Te Hononga Hundertwasser Park in Kawakawa, which commences in Febraury 2019.
Te Hononga means''the joining together of peoples'', and the architecturally designed space will house a library, acouncil service centre, a gallery, a community workshop, as well as showers and toilets for freedom campers. It will also include an interpretative centre exploring the relationship between the town and Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who of course designed the now world famous Kawkawa toilets.
RTC has places for 20 students to complete their BCATS 1 and 2, NCEA 1 and 2 qualifications in Kawakawa working on the build. Students will work in groups of 10 on site for 2 days each week, 2 days will be spent in the workshop and/or classroom, while a 5th day will focus on employment ready skills and coaching. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people, who live in, or close to Kawakawa, to be part of this prestigious $6.4 million Hundertwasser-inspired community hub and to support their local community. It will be something to share with many future generations.
